Real Madrid – Liverpool

Match Preview: Who will win the Champions League in Kiev?

Customers at Tipbet would have got long odds in predicting this Champions League Final match-up in the season bets before the tournament began in earnest in September, but it will be Real Madrid against Liverpool at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev on 26th May.

The current holders Real have the chance to win an unprecedented third successive trophy and this would go to underline their dominance of the European game. Short-term it would also surely secure the future of coach Zinedine Zidane whose spell in charge of the club has been thrown into doubt following their poor showing in La Liga, with Barcelona winning the title at a canter.

Despite their somewhat tired performances in 2017/18, with the squad in major need of rejuvenation this summer, Los Blancos have still managed to find a way past some elite clubs on their way to the final. After finishing second in Group H to Tottenham Hotspur, the Spaniards saw off Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and then Bayern Munich in the knockout rounds and scored 13 times in six matches.

Cristiano Ronaldo, as a former Manchester United player, would love nothing more than to personally sink Liverpool on Saturday, and the Portuguese forward will be the major scoring threat having recorded 15 Champions League goals already this season.

The Reds have one of the most exciting attacks in Europe, though, and if on form their front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah will cause problems for Real Madrid, so this has the potential to be a high-scoring encounter. The Premier League representatives do have a tendency to leave themselves open in defence, as their 7-6 aggregate victory over Roma in the semi-finals showed.
