Lazio – Milan
Match Preview: 0-0 heading into the Coppa Italia second-leg
The first-leg 0-0 draw in the semi-final of the Coppa Italia means that this fixture is evenly-balanced heading into the meeting on Wednesday night. Milan will be confident of scoring in Rome against Lazio, with the away goals rule in play. Doing so would give them an excellent chance of reaching May’s final, which is taking place at the Stadio Olimpico, the venue for this semi. There, the victors will be playing Juventus – who lead 1-0 – or Atalanta.
Match Preview: Standings
2017/18 has so far been frustrating for Milan. They are seventh in Serie A and will find it very difficult to make up the seven-point gap to Inter, who in fourth currently occupy the final Champions League qualification place. Their best chance of reaching Europe’s elite competition for the first time since 2014 probably lies in winning the Europa League, though being drawn against Arsenal in the last-16 has made that much harder.
Recent form under Gennaro Gattuso has been impressive for the Rossoneri and last weekend’s 2-0 win against Roma suggested that they have reached a turning point in their campaign. They are now on a five-match winning streak and have had clean sheets in each of those matches; Milan have not lost in 2018, and a continuation of this will see them climb the Serie A table. As well as possibly winning silverware in the form of the Coppa Italia.
Lazio promises to be tricky opponents though. They are having an outstanding season, sitting third and with the league’s best attack (64 goals from 26 games). The first-leg result was, therefore, an impressive feat by Milan’s defence. Particularly as Ciro Immobile has 32 goals in as many appearances this season.
